Warm Up!

Thanks to everyone for braving the cold weather and slippery roads to work out this week. It didn't take long to take the chill off after a good warm up. If you're still feeling the cold, come on out! We have lots of fun workouts planned for this week to shake it up, keep you moving and warm you up!

The prizes are in for the fall contest! The winners of a Fit Together t-shirts are Flo, Carmen, Joyce, Kate and Jill. We will get your shirts to you as soon as we can. Thanks for participating!

December 3 for $3!

Find a bit of balance this December. At this time of year we tend to give a lot of ourselves, and are bombarded with sensory stimulus. The holidays are great for keeping our energy up through the dark months, but can be draining if we don't take a bit of time to calm and quiet ourselves as well. Join me for three gentle early morning yoga and meditation classes this December. It won't drain your bank account and it might just fill your tank a bit! Each class costs $3. If you bring along a new toque or mitts that a teenager might like I will deliver what we collect to the Youth Emergency Shelter after the last class.

(Please feel free to bring donations to fitness or yoga classes until December 17th whether or not you attend the early classes!)

Thursdays: December 3, 10, and 17th 6:00-7:00am.

Rosy cheeks and strong hearts!

It's getting a bit cooler, so remember to layer your clothing and bring toques and gloves if you'll be more comfortable for the early or later outdoor classes. It may take a bit more effort to get out the door now that the days are shorter and cooler, but regular exercise is a gift you can give yourself to improve your quality of life!

This week, to be entered in the draw, just show up!

WINTER FITNESS: We are committed to promoting adherance to regular exercise, so we will be continuing to provide the opportunity for you to continue what you have started and worked hard at this fall! We still have to iron out a few kinks, but are proposing to continue the Friday morning Strollers in the Park. This class would eventually move indoors to become a circuit training class through the winter months. For those of you who prefer evenings or weekend, talk to us and we'll schedule something that works in a small group setting! For outdoor classes, we will set a cut-off/cancellation temperature at -15 (including windchill).

Monday Night Yoga

Hi Ladies,

I know of 4 or 5 people who will be absent tonight, so that means we have at least that many spaces if anyone out there wants to drop in.

Sue

We Love this Weather!

It was another fantastic week for outdoor workouts! During this session we've explored so many places in the Mill Creek Ravine that have been great for running, circuits, climbing, step ups, push ups, step ups and so much more. The forecast is looking good for this week too!

Please note that there will be no class on Saturday and Monday of the Thanksgiving weekend. Enjoy your turkey!

Weekly Contest Clue

Bring an item for the food bank to be entered in this week's draw for your very own Fit Together t-shirt.

Weekly Draw for Yogis

Because we cannot fit many more people into our physical space, unfortunately the bring a partner model won't work for us. However, if you would still like to be entered in the draw for a Fit Together Edmonton T-shirt, for this week you can share with me what your favourite pose is, and tell me why you enjoy it so much!

Yoga Tonight

Greetings yogis!

If you can tear yourselves away from the beautiful evening, I look forward to seeing you tonight at 7:15. Please bring your blankets/towels and any other gear you like to have on hand while practising. I also have received a call from one person indicating she will miss class tonight because she is sick, so if someone wants to fill the spot, please let me know.

Thank-you,
Sue

Grin and Bear Crawl it!

Wow, it was an intense week of bear crawls, stairs, hills, bands, trail runs, push-ups, v-sits, lunges, running, squats and so much more! I was so happy to see all of you at yoga on Monday night. I really look forward to a wonderful session to balance out all the busy-ness of life. This class is full, and I apologize to those of you I had to turn away. I will be sure to let you know when I'm able to secure another time-slot for yoga!

Modified Strollers Schedule

Strollers in the Park will be offered for the remainder of the fall session, until October 29th on Fridays at 10:00am. If not, check out one of our evening or Saturday morning Total Body Conditioning classes.

Sun, Sun, Mr Golden Sun

We're looking forward to another great week at Argyll! Strollers in the Park will be outside unless the weather is awful, otherwise we'll be in the hall. Our Total Body Conditioning class will be outside. Dress prepared. It's lots of fun in the rain! Don't forget our Total Body Conditioning class has moved from 7:00pm to 6:30pm.

Fall Session Contest

This session we will be doing a draw for a Fit Together shirt.

To be entered this week wear something BLUE to class, or to every class to be entered more than once!

Chili Together

This recipe is healthy, nutritious and extremely versatile. You can pretty much throw any leftover vegetables in and it will be delicious! You can also substitute the chickpeas and black beans to beans of your choice. It's filling and will warm you up on these crisp fall days!

1 Tbsp olive oil
1 onion
2 cloves garlic, crushed
28oz can tomatoes, undrained
19oz can black beans, rinsed
19oz can chickpeas, rinsed
2 Tbsp chili powder
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp paprika
3 tsp salt
1 fresh jalapeno pepper (or 2, if you like it hot!)
2 carrots
1 red pepper (cut into 1cm squares)
1 yellow pepper (cut into 1cm squares)
1 orange pepper (cut into 1cm squares)
1 cup frozen corn
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Chop onion. Heat oil in a large pan. Sauté onion and garlic over medium high heat, stirring until soft, about 2 minutes. Add tomatoes, chick peas and black beans. Stir in seasonings. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally and breaking up tomatoes.

Meanwhile, dice jalapeno pepper (avoid touching eyes) and stir into mixture. Dice carrots and peppers and add. When mixture comes to a boil, reduce heat to simmer. Slice celery and add.Simmer uncovered, stirring often, about 30 minutes - until carrots are tender. Add frozen corn and cook chili until corn is cooked. Serve with grated cheese. Flavour improves with at least one night's refrigeration.
